BJMA Affiliated Club: Phoenix Dojo, Port Augusta S.A.

I began training with BJMA in the small country town of Port Pirie, South Australia, at the beginning of 1984 before my 18th birthday. My instructor then was Alan Tunney, a golden gloves boxer who got involved with ZDK because of his interest in kick boxing. Needless to say, my early training involved a lot of boxing and TKD style kicking until Muay Thai influenced the system.

I currently hold the rank of 8th Degree, Kyoshi in ZDK and Tara Miliata and live in the country town of Port Augusta, South Australia. Outside of the BJMA, I have dabbled in Judo, TKD, Aikido and Wing Chun Kung Fu.

To finish up, always remember the quote “The master has failed more times that the beginner has tried.” Trial and error. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again (unless it’s skydiving). Be prepared to make mistakes, or as I like to think, retakes. Fall down 7 times, stand up 8 times!

Respect every master, every student and every style, BJMA is a mixed bag and everyone has something to teach us!
